Leonardo DiCaprio is my lord & savor.
Ask Me WHATEVER You WantJust saw The Great Gatsby
And it was just visually beautiful, I really don’t know how else to put it.
Yes I’m a HUGE Leonardo DiCaprio fan (seriously….even people I hardly know…think of me when they see anything related to him or Titanic), but I’m also a lover of film and great acting. Which means I’m not gonna love ALL of Leo’s movies….*gasp* yes I know the difference between a good and bad film even when my favorite people are in them ;-)
This film, for the era it was set in everyone pulled everything off amazingly. Tobey, was just being Tobey as always, cute and sad but just kind of there? It was like everyone was pulling off some sort of accent or image and Tobey was just Tobey in that era’s clothes.
Leo, Joel, Carey and everyone else I felt was flawless with their acting. Being a hardcore Leo fan there are a bunch of his ‘acting tics’ that I’ve become familiar with over the years and tend to make me laugh, but other then that and the fact that he says ‘old sport’ 400 million times….he was great. Funny, scary and heart breakingly great!
Plus, oh my god he was NOT hard on the eyes….even though to me in his first 30 mintues of air time he seemed a bit heavier in the face, but then once him and Carey finally meet it’s like he’s magically lost 15 pounds. Re-shoots, much?
Joel is amazing in the sense that I fucking hated his character’s guts. Which is saying alot since I absolutely loved his character in ‘Warrior’. But rest assured you will hate him as much as I halfway through the movie.
Carey is charming and beautiful as Daisy and does a wonderful job pulling off the love and confusion that Daisy goes through in this story.
The costumes, sets and yes even the cgi transitions were just beautiful to me. I felt like I almost wasn’t watching a movie but experiencing it? Does that even make any sense?
I don’t know I just really liked it’s epicness of it all.
Definitely no kind of award nominations for this, except for maybe costumes and effects. It’s just not THAT kind of movie to be recognized for any acting awards. Not to say they were bad because they weren’t. But one, it’s too early in the year for the academies to even remember this movie for acting and two, the academy hates Leo and most ‘ground breaking’ type of film making.
Back to Leo’s ‘acting tics’, my friends and I got alot of angry stares and looks when we would start giggling at one of Leo’s epic ‘angry points’ or something that would remind us of any of his other characters……especially Romeo. HELLOOOO Baz, lol.
But also on top of that you have the whole ‘Leo Meme’ explosion that has been happening ever since ‘Strutting Leo’ was born. I would like to report that this scene….
…..DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!
In fact I was so dazzled by it that before I even realized what I was doing I had lifted up my drink (that I snuck in from home) and toasted him back.
I can’t even BEGIN to tell you how many Leo gifs need to be made out of this movie, because it’s unreal and I can’t wait for that gif set explosion on tumblr!
With all that said, I really liked it, it was heartbreaking, beautiful, funny and just epic. I feel like there was so much going on that even if Leo wasn’t in it, I’d be going back to see it again just to make sure I saw everything.
Which I need to do anyways since I saw it tonight in 2D, with all the awesome effect I definitely wanna go back and see it in 3D at least once. Even if I’ll probably end up getting sick and throwing up afterwards.
Leo fans, go see it.
Baz Fans, go see it.
Great Gatsby fans, go see it.
It truly is a spectacle you need to see in it’s true form….loud and proud on the big screen….at least once.
Had a good time tonight using art as an excuse to stare for a long time at one of my favorite faces & new favorite characters even though the movie isn’t even out yet: Dirty Leo!

I saw it the first time it came out, gotta do it again.
Hell yeah! (@am13er) I rep hard and long, all day, erry day! And I will still cry like a baby.
Saw it the first day it was released, 12/19/97, saw it 13 times in theater the whole time it was in theaters.
And now, I’ll be seeing it on Tuesday (2/14/12) for FREE.
As well as a bunch of other times with my friends when it’s released in April, LIKE A BOSS.

Me: “I drew it with my finger!”
Mom: “Not uh.”
